Africa’s transport and supply chain sector is evolving rapidly, thanks to digital transformation. Over 60% of logistics startups on the continent now rely on mobile apps and real-time tracking to improve transparency and efficiency, according to Partech Africa.
The rise of e-commerce is a major catalyst. With online retail expected to surpass $75 billion by 2025, logistics providers are investing in last-mile delivery, route optimization, and localized warehouses to meet growing demand.
Sustainability is gaining momentum too. In South Africa, for example, over 30% of logistics companies are testing electric vehicles and green packaging to cut emissions and reduce fuel costs.
Infrastructure upgrades are also making a difference. The African Union’s Programme for Infrastructure Development (PIDA) aims to connect 54 countries through better roads and transport corridors, making cross-border trade smoother and faster.
These trends are redefining the industry, creating exciting opportunities for innovation and investment across the continent.
